Careless in Red by Elizabeth George

Careless in Red (Inspector Lynley) - Thomas Lynley has handed in his badge and is at loose ends after the murder of his wife and unborn child. He is walking the coast of England and finds a body at the bottom of a cliff apparently the victim of a climbing accident. Not having identification on him and after weeks of travel he of course is taken for a vagrant and he does little to disillusion the small village authorities. However, when it comes out that he is indeed the Thomas Lynley of the New Scotland Yard, he is required to stay and help investigate the matter.

Between the town’s people withholding information and outright lying to the local police find it hard to pin the crime on one suspect.

I am not sure why but I felt that George made this story longer than it had to be. The story line itself was very interesting, however, I found myself skipping large pieces of the scenery descriptions, thought processes of the characters etc. and still I fell asleep a couple of times while reading this book of just plain boredom. Only die hard Lynley/Havers fans will read and finish the book, if they make it through the first few pages.
