Heyday - 1848…Revolution is sweeping Europe, America wins its fight against Mexico, and gold is discovered in California. 2nd son aristocrat Benjamin Knowles has found himself caught up in the ruckus in France and lost his best friend. Always besotted with America, he travels to New York to start a new life where he meets three best friends Timothy Skaggs, Duff Lucking and Polly Lucking.
Skaggs, a journalist and photographer (daguerreotypist), is of course always looking for the next big story or picture; or at least good time. Duff is a fireman, pipefitter and veteran of the Mexican war and has both physical and emotional scars. Polly is an actress who has been making ends meet by secretly working as a prostitute.
A long, but enjoyable saga. AS you read the stories of the characters you will become involved with their lives. When you are finished you will find they are part of your life as if you traveled across the vast New World along with them.
