The Scarecrow by Michael Connelly

The Scarecrow - Jack McEvoy has been given 2 weeks to vacate his reporter’s desks and train his replacement. But he plans to go out with a Pulitzer Prize winning piece. He begins by investigating how a young black boy becomes the murderer of a white girl and stuffs her in the trunk of a stolen car. He ends up being the target of a serial killer who has been targeting certain women, torturing them, and then framing someone else for their murder.
