Fade by Kyle Mills

Fade - Salam al Fayed, Fade, made an error in the field and now has a bullet lodge in his back. When he received the injury, his employer, the US, failed to get him the medical attention he needed. Now he waits for the bullet to move and paralyze him. The Director of Homeland Security, Hillel Strand, wants Matt Egan, Fade’s friend, to convince Fade to work on a project. Fade has refused but knows that Strand will be back and prepares to fight it out with the agents and be killed in the process. Instead, Strand has a local SWAT team go in to arrest Fade, but without the knowledge of Fade’s background. Fade not knowing they were local cops, kills everyone but the leader, Karen Manning.
