Dr. Kay Scarpetta is working pro bono for NY City’s Office of the Chief Medical Center. She also is a frequent guest on a CNN program where she explains in layman’s terms the work that she does and its meaning. During one of these shows, the host asks her about a sensational recent crime, which was against the contract, and a caller calls in questions about her husband, Benton Wesley’s, activities. Benton is on the case of a missing celebrity and also is being stalked by a past patient.
