Sharpe's Honor by Bernard Cornwell

Sharpe's Honor (Richard Sharpe's Adventures, No. 7) - Pierre Ducos, who insulted Sharpe's wife in "Sharpe's Enemy" and paid for it with his eyeglasses, now has a plan for revenge and victory for the French.  He blackmails Marquesa de Casares el Grande y Melida Sadaba (from Sharpe's Sword) into writing to her husband, convincing him that Sharpe had dishonored her.  Subsequently, the Marques is killed and Sharpe is blamed, convicted of murder and sentenced to death.  La Marquesa is imprisoned in a nunnery by an Inquisitor.  Wellington an Major Hogan send Sharpe alone into Spain to find the Marquesa and learn why the French wanted the Marques dead.
