Red Mist by Patricia Cornwell

Red Mist (A Scarpetta Novel) - Kay Scarpetta goes to Savannah, Georgia to meet with, Kathleen Lawler, the woman who traumatized Kay's former deputy chief, Jack Fielding.  Dawn Kincaid, who had murdered Jack, is Jack and  Lawler's daughter.  While Kay is speaking with Lawler, Lawler slips her a note requesting that Kay contact Jaime Berger by pay telephone.  Later, both Lawler and Berger are killed by poison.  Kay, her husband Benton, her niece Lucy, as well as Pete Marino find that they are not only after a vicious murderer, but that killer is also part of a diabolical plot that is killing woman inmates.

In my opinion, this is not one of Cornwell's best.  The story starts slow, and although the mystery deepens and keeps one interest, the resolution is disappointing and very unsatisfying.
