The Help by Kathryn Stockett
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
- During the early 1960's, the white population of Mississippi is determined to keep the "coloreds" intheir place. That is, their servants and in "separate but equal" schools, libraries, neighborhoods, public bathrooms as well as private bathrooms, and anywhere else people are. Privileged, Eugenia Phelan, "Skeeter", is an aspiring journalist, but her mother and friends are determined to get her married, for her own good. Skeeter, enlists the aid of Aibileen, the black maid of one of her friends, to help her write a book about what it is like to be black and servile to a white boss.
