- In the late 1890s Lucian Manet fell in love with and married Abigail Rouse, much to his mother’s distress. Lucian was the eldest son and Abigail was but a servant from the bayou. At midnight, while Abigail was feeding their daughter and Lucian was in New Orleans on business, Julian, Lucian’s twin, raped and murdered Abigail.It is now 2002 and Declan Fitzgerald has bought Manet Hall and is determined to restore it to its former glory. While he is working on his new home, doors slam, babies cry, clocks chime, and watches stop at midnight. Also, he meets Angelina Simone, his best friend’s cousin, and the two are inexplicably drawn to each other. Apparently, they have some unfinished business from 1899 to settle.
