The Man with a Load of Mischief by Martha Grimes

The Man with a Load of Mischief - This story introduces Inspector Richard Jury. In the village of Long Piddleton, two strangers are murdered 1 day apart. One left in the cellar of an inn with his head stuck in a beer barrel. The other hung in the place of a metal smithy on the sign of another inn. Both had been strangled.

The story itself is very interesting; however the writing is very wordy and flowery.  It has too much for my taste, so much so that I found myself skipping much of the prose.
