. James D. Cronley Jr., fresh from Argentina where he assisted Cletus Frade in a secret mission, is recruited into the secret service eventually known as the CIA. His first mission is in American occupied Germany where he is to command the installation where German officers who helped the Allies will be kept in secret. Before he even takes command, a Russian spy is captured. Cronley spends the next two weeks trying to break the Russian while simultaneously keeping his captivity a secret as well as the Germans he his housing and the plans of the new secret organization.
