Red Prophet by Orson Scott Card
Red Prophet (Tales of Alvin Maker, Book 2)
- In Card's America, magic exists and native Americans are especially sensitive to the earth. Lolla-Wossiky is even more sensitive than most and when he is young, a white man murders his father in front of him. This brings on the black noise which Lolla-Wossiky drowns out with whiskey. On his journey to find his dream beast, he encounters Alvin Maker. From then on, Lolla-Wossiky becomes Tenskwa-Tawa, and is known as the Prophet. The lives of Alvin, the Prophet, and Ta-Kumsaw (Lolla-Wossiky's brother and chief) become so entwined that they depend on each other for their and their families lives.
