The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith

The Cuckoo's Calling - Galbraith is J.K. Rowling's pseudonym for her first crime novel.  Cormoran Strike, a down on his luck private detective, just broke up with his gorgeous girlfriend.  Even though he didn't request a replacement, the temp service sent Robin Ellacott for a week.  Before he is able to tell her he doesn't need her, John Bristow, the brother of a childhood friend asks him to investigate the death of Lula Landry, aka Cuckoo.  Lula had supposedly jumped off her balcony, but John insists that she was murdered.  As Cormoran and Robin investigate, Robin realizes that she enjoys the work and Cormoran realizes that he needs her.
