Twelve years ago, Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro found kidnapped 4-yo Amanda McCready and returned her to her mother, who by all accounts was an unfit mother. Now, Amanda is missing again, and Amanda’s aunt has claimed the girl is missing again. However, Amanda’s mother states that Amanda is still at home. Police have even spoken to the girl. Amanda’s only friend, Sophie, is also missing. In their investigation, Kenzie and Gennaro are led to a mentally ill mobster and his wife who want the baby they bought. They also encounter a corrupt social worker who is selling the babies of the girls he is counseling.
