Angelique in Revolt by Sergeanne Golon
Angelique in Revolt (Book 4)
Because Angelique defied King Louis XIV, he put her under “house arrest” and stationed his officers at her estates until she submitted to his demands and ceded her lands. The officers were uncouth, giving Angelique the determination to defy the king again. She joins up with the local Protestant peasants and leads the Poitou Revolt. When the revolt fails, she finds her way to the port town of La Rochelle where she is taken in by a local merchant. The merchant and his fellow comrades come under persecution. Angelique helps the Protestants escape to Rescator’s ship.
