Angelique in Barbary (Book 3) (See all Contemporary Literature) - Angelique goes to the Mediterranean in search of her Joffrey de Peyrac, her 1^st husband.  She enlists the help of Admiral Vivonne, with whom Cantor was sailing when he died.  During a storm, the ship is wrecked and Angelique falls into the hands of Captain D’Escranville. D’Escranville rapes and tortures Angelique then sells her on the auction block in Candia.  Rescator buys her for 30,000 piastres.  However, with the help of her friend, Savaray, she escapes.  But then she is again captured by Mezzo Morte, Rescator’s rival. He then hands her over to Osman Bey, the chief eunuch of Muly Ismail, Sultan of Morocco.  Befriending Osman Bey, Angelique is able avoid presentation to the Sultan but because it is known she is destined to be the 3^rd and favorite wife, the Sultan’s 1^st 2 wives try to kill her.  Mulay Ismail finally learns of Angelique’s existence, but when she tries to kill him, the sultan sentences to be whipped.  She eventually escapes with Colin Paturel, leader of the slaves.
